Homer H. Morris, age 71 of Aberdeen, of congestive heart failure at home on Thursday, December 25, 2008. Beloved husband of Patricia A. (Ogren) Morris for more than 47 years. Cherished father of Catherine A. Prahl of Laurel. Loving grandfather of Jessica A. and Gregory T. Prahl, both of Laurel. Homer was born in Joplin, MO to the late Harold and NayDeen (Hodson) Morris. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1961. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Homer attended Pittsburg (Kansas) State University, where he earned a B.A. and an M.A. He was an English and speech professor at Harford Community College from 1965 until 1996. During that time, Homer was also the college's Associate Dean for Humanistic Studies (1977 to 1988). He was a freelance author of short stories, articles, and one non-fiction book. Homer was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, serving the church as worship leader and member of the church council.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Friday, January 9, 2009,
from 1 :00 to 1 :30 P.M. A memorial service officiated by Rev. G. Neale Wirtanen will follow at 1:30 P.M. A private interment service with presentation of military honors will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Homer's family requests donations in his memory to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, c/o St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 Mt. Royal Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001.
